Hiking in the Columbia River Gorge Many books have been written about the great hikes throughout the Gorge, the Gorge Scenic Area, the Mt Hood National Forest, and the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Over the years the Dusty Devas have explored and discovered new hiking areas throughout the Mid-Columbia region. Some hikes are close to home and some end up being all day hikes in the national forests in both Oregon and Washington. But we love them all! The Dusty Devas are also aware of a few things to look out for. Ticks and poison oak top the list in the spring and summer. We have been fortunate that most of us have avoided both those nasty things. There are also wild animals out there, like black bears, cougars, coyotes, and rattlesnakes. So far we haven't had any altercations with a wild animal. Click here to go to our Hiking Photo Gallery.
